Jack Tankersley is often introduced as the “father of venture capital” in Colorado. As a co-founder of The Centennial Funds, in 1981 he raised the first private equity fund in our state. Over his long career, he has raised and managed more than $1 billion. His passion for helping people build successful businesses, whether as an investor, director, or strategic planning consultant is evident in the success of his investments, with seven portfolio companies, each ultimately selling for valuations in excess of $1 billion.

At Meritage. Jack is the visionary leader of Meritage. His creative approach to deal structures has led to consistent investment successes. As an EOS Implementer, Jack provides dynamic, powerful training to entrepreneurs and leadership teams. His decades of experience as an investor and director of venture and private equity-backed enterprises give him a unique and keen perspective into the world of the entrepreneur. He uniquely understands their challenges and needs. As a creative and thoughtful problem-solver, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to each session he conducts.

Experience. Jack has worked with scores of companies, from very early stage to mature companies seeking successful exits. His investment successes in companies such as Crown Castle and Brooks Fiber Properties are well known and he is widely regarded as an unparalleled expert in strategic planning and investment strategies.

He serves on the Denison University Board of Trustees and The National Trust for Historic Preservation as chair of the investments committee. He is a former trustee of Woodberry Forest School and continues to serve on the investment committee. Jack is a past president and chairman of the board of trustees of the Boy Scouts of America, Denver Area Council. He also co-chairs the Denver Area Council’s Endowment Trust. Jack is an emeritus advisory board member of the Tuck School of Business – Center for Private Equity & Entrepreneurship at Tuck School. Jack currently services as an outside director of Cakebread Cellars.

Laura Beller

Laura understands the lifecycle of investment funds. Her decades of experience allow her to anticipate and comply with the regulatory issues that arise in the 10-year life of a venture fund.  She helped launch and/or managed 12 venture capital, private equity, and Fund-of-Funds programs. Laura is a member of the Meritage Investment Committee and has been actively involved in fundraising and portfolio management for more than 30 years.

At Meritage. Laura is co-founder of Meritage Funds. She is actively involved in all investment decisions and recently launched Meritage Accounting Group.Experience. Laura has 30 years of experience in the management of private equity firms. She was named Outstanding Women in Business - Denver Business Journal (2003) and received the Iowa State University College of Business Citation of Achievement Award.

Meritage co-founder and Managing Director David Solomon is an extraordinary operator and entrepreneur. An accountant by training, he served KPMG as a partner, but left after 13 years to join Brooks Fiber Properties as CFO. Under his direction, the company grew from seven employees to more than 1,800, and raised more than $1.2 billion in debt and equity from both the public and private capital markets. In less than five years, Brooks Fiber Properties was sold for $3.4 billion.

At Meritage. David leads the firm’s investment activities, currently serving as a director of Meritage portfolio companies EdgeConneX, Digital Fortress, and Faction. In addition, he spearheads the firm’s sourcing and due diligence activities.

Experience. David has served dozens of companies as an operating executive, from CFO to CEO, and as an active, diligent, and effective director. After Brooks Fiber Properties sale, he joined NuVox as its CEO and led the company through a successful merger with Windstream. Under his leadership, NuVox grew from $200,000 in annual revenue to over $530 million.

He has also worked for established companies, helping to secure over $250 million in project funding for a Fortune 500 company. Having successfully led the Vital Learning management team through an EOS implementation, Jay is now applying his knowledge and skills to training other entrepreneurs as a Professional EOS Implementer.

As a Professional EOS Implementer, Jay works with entrepreneurs and leadership teams to help them build remarkable organizations by clarifying their vision, gaining traction through increased accountability, and becoming more functional and cohesive. He is also active in Meritage’s investment arm, originating, evaluating, and performing due diligence on potential investment opportunities.

Amy Alcott joined Meritage with an extensive tax background. Since then, she’s expanded her knowledge base to include the intricacies of operating the business of a venture capital fund.

At Meritage. Amy is responsible for sourcing and onboarding new Meritage Accounting Group clients. She oversees operations, including investor reporting, internal controls, tax compliance, cash management, and creation of investment vehicles. She is a member of our investment committee.

At Meritage. Derek represents Meritage on the boards of directors of several Meritage portfolio companies including Crisp Media, Digital Fortress, and Faction.

Experience. Derek has held a number of operating and advisory roles, including CEO of a Meritage portfolio company. Derek is also a co-founder and general partner at Workhorse Capital, a growth equity firm he founded in 2016.

At Meritage. Responsible for maintaining all of the day-to-day responsibilities of the accounting department – money coming in, money going out. Krista is skilled at juggling a wide variety of tasks. She operates as office manager, ensuring the right resources are available to keep the firm running smoothly.

Experience. Krista is gifted with prodigious organizational skills. She has mastered various accounting software programs, banking policies and procedures and federal, state, and local regulatory business requirements. She has also demonstrated the ability to develop and clearly document accounting processes and procedures.

Diana is the friendly voice on the phone and a key team member of Meritage Strategy Group.

At Meritage. Diana coordinates client interactions for Meritage Strategy Group and Meritage Funds. She is responsible for preparing meeting materials and logistics. Diana keeps the EOS implementers organized, focused, and equipped with the resources they need to conduct successful EOS sessions.

Experience. Diana started out as a legal secretary, honing her writing and organizational skills in both small and large firms.
